Acne Scars: Scar Treatment Options

by Julie Greenmayer

Did you know that adequate and timely acne treatment can help prevent acne scars? This is just one more reason to take care of your acne problems as soon as possible. However, if your cleansing, toning and moisturizing routine hasn't been enough to control your acne, then your next option will probably involve scar removal options.

Scar removal procedures have been used for centuries. Thankfully, there have been studies made that have helped make scar removal more refined that it once was. Here's a look at the different options that you have for removing acne scars

Scar Removal Treatments

One of the most common forms of scar removal is surgery. Punch excision and subcision are generally used for acne scars. Punch excision is used to treat ice pick scars, while the second type of treatment is most effective when used on rolling scars.

Punch excision involves a cookie cutter type instrument that removes scar tissue. After having removed the damaged tissue, the edges of the excised skin are sutured together. If the excised skin is too extensive, grafted skin will be used to close the wound.

There is another popular form of surgical removal which is known as subcision. In this type of treatment a small scalpel or surgical scissors are used to release the epidermis from underlying scar tissue. The space between these two layers will be filled with dermal fillers or by blood that will naturally fill in the empty space.

If you prefer, however, there are less invasive forms of scar treatments. Some of the most common types of superficial treatments include chemical peels, dermabrasion, microdermabrasion and scar creams. Another very popular form of treatment is laser therapy.

Both chemical peels and dermabrasion help remove the skin and promoting the growth of new, healthy cells. When undergoing chemical peels you'll notice that they use different chemicals to burn off the skin. The depth of these peels depends on the acids used.

Dermabrasion, however, uses an abrasive wand to help remove the outermost layer of skin. As with chemical peels, this type of treatment requires the use of anesthesia and a certain period of recovery. Both dermabrasion and chemical peels can also be used to remove age spots and wrinkles.

Microdermabrasion and scar creams are the most gentle type of acne scar treatment. Microdermabrasion does not require anesthesia so it can be performed in a day spa or salon.

For a scar cream to be effective it should contain ingredients that help dissolve scar tissue. The ingredients that you should look for are snail serum and rose hip seed oil. Both gently remove damaged skin and help replace it with healthy skin.

If you have dry skin or sensitive skin then scar creams are probably your best option. Using any other type of option may result to be too harsh for your skin.

If you are trying to avoid acne scars, then first clear acne. Nevertheless, if you already suffer from acne scars, BIOSKINCARE is a great scar cream capable of helping remove facial acne scars as well as other types of scars. This wonderful product is made with snail serum, a natural ingredient that can gently help treat damaged skin tissue.
