Exposed Acne Treatment - What's the Difference

This product combines benzoyl peroxide, albeit in a micronized formula that penetrates more deeply into the skin, with Gree Tea Extracts, also micronized, alpha and beta hydroxy acids, and several botanicals in an aim to counteract the undesired side effects of the chemicals.

Benzoyl Peroxide and Green Tea kill bacteria but also liberate oxygen radicals that damage the DNA of cells and cause premature aging.

To counteract the free radicals the product includes Olive leaf extract that contains an active compound called Oleuropein that wards infection and bacteria growth. Olive leaf extract is also known to fight free-radical oxidation, a major cause of premature aging in the skin.

Alpha hydroxy acid encourages the shedding of dead skin cells and aids in normalizing the skin cell replacement cycle. It is also used to smooth and even skin tone. Beta hydroxy acid is a mild acid that encourages the sloughing of dead skin cells. It is effective at opening clogged pores

Glycolic and Alpha Hydroxy Acids are often used in formulations and cosmetics to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and other skin imperfections but not without the pitfall of excess thickenning of your skin if you use it too frequently.

The Exposed System also includes Tea Tree Oil to sooth the irritations, rashes and burns that the chemicals in the system cause, and to also help control acne.

Other botanical extracts combined with amino-peptide complexes are added to counteract irritation and to help with skin renewal. Those are Allantoin for its skin renewal properties, Alpha Lipolic Acid for its antioxidant properties, Aloe Vera for its moisturizing and soothing properties, Hyaluronic Acid for its hydrating effects and Licorine Root Extract to reduce inflammation and redness.

Helichrysum is another included botanical for its ability to speed the healing of wounds and limit the forming of scars. Helichrysum also reduces UVB induced damage to sun exposed skin.

They also add Cyclomethicone, a silicone based non-comedogenic emollient that forms a protective moisture barrier on the skin. It is effective at delivering active agents such as anti-oxidants, amino-peptides and botanical extracts.

This product includes a sun blocker too. For this effect they use micronized zinc oxide which acts as a physical barrier to shield the skin from the sun's damaging ultraviolet rays. It absorbs not only the UV rays that burn your skin (UVB), but also the rays that age your skin (UVA).

Micronized Zinc Oxide is one of the few sun blocks that is not questioned for its safety for daily use on the skin. The most widely used sunscreens are chemicals that work by absorbing the UV rays and include octyl methoxycinnamate, benzophene-3 & 4, and octyl dimethyl PABA and others. The drawback of these compounds is that they clog the pores, cause breakouts, sensitize and irritate the skin, and cause allergic reactions.

Overall the Exposed Acne Treatment Concoctions, in its several products, is a good compromise between the harsh effects of the chemicals and a number of botanicals, that if used properly, in sufficient amounts and frequently, counteract the risks and benefit the skin. In a nutshell: a product that works in the short run, is less irritating and causes undesired immediate side effects to fewer people.
